Albert Lea girls’ hockey players Cischosz and Moyer earn honors

After a historic year that saw the Tigers girls’ hockey team achieve team records in wins (21) and claim their first-ever Big 9 championship, two Tiger seniors have earned notable individual accolades.

Defenseman Mika Cischosz has been nominated as a semifinalist for the coveted Ms. Hockey award, an honor that is given to the best senior hockey player in the state.

Cichosz ended the season as the state’s leading scoring defenseman with 63 points, including 39 goals. The senior finishes her career with 109 goals, 64 assists and 173 total points and will continue her hockey career with Division 1 Minnesota State, Mankato. The Ms. Hockey winner will be announced Sunday at a banquet in the RiverCentre in St. Paul.

Albert Lea goaltender Jayda Moyer was nominated as a semifinalist for the Jori Jones award as one of the state’s top senior goaltenders. Moyer was tied for third in the state for wins (21), sixth in save percentage (.943), and sixth in goals against average (1.24). Moyer also added an impressive 10 shutouts. She will finish her high school career as the Tigers’ all-time leader in wins, save percentage and shut-outs. The winner of the award will be announced Feb. 23 in conjunction with the Ms. Hockey award.
