Authorities confiscated a sharp object from a student at Albert Lea High School Wednesday afternoon after school administrators received a report that a student was in possession of a potentially dangerous item.
According to a statement from the school district, the student was immediately escorted to the office, and school administrators and law enforcement began investigating.
The investigation led to the discovery of a sharp object that was confiscated, and law enforcement and school officials continue to review the incident and adhere to all local and state policies, the district stated.
Albert Lea police stated no arrests were made.
“The safety and well-being of all students and staff is the most critical concern for ALHS and Albert Lea Area Schools’ leadership,” the school statement said. “The actions of staff and students ensured that steps were taken to prevent the use of the object in any manner that could have caused harm to anyone.”
The district thanked the members of the school community for their vigilance and thanked the Albert Lea Police Department for their support. It also emphasized the district’s continued mission is to “ensure that every student and staff member who walks through our doors enters a safe and collaborative learning environment.”
