Lake Mills hosted Regional Duals on Tuesday night with a chance to advance to State Duals.

The Bulldogs awaited the winner of No. 9 Nashua-Plainfield and West Lyon, who battled in the semifinals. The Huskies made easy work of West Lyon, 67-7.

The finals were now set between N-P and No. 8 Lake Mills.

Nashua-Plainfield won four of the first six bouts to take a 24-9 lead. The Bulldogs stormed back by winning the next four matches to take a 28-24 lead. Unfortunately, the Huskies wrapped up the dual by getting two pins and a technical fall in the next three matches. Final score was 41-34.

“Overall, the effort was pretty good by our kids,” said Lake Mills coach Alex Brandenburg. “With how many bonus points we gave up, we needed to squeak out one more individual win to take the dual.”

Lake Mills and Nashua-Plainfield had split two previous duals, but the Huskies had three returning state qualifiers back in the line-up who didn’t wrestle in the last meeting.

“Getting N-P in the regionals was a really tough draw as they were way underrated from losses when they didn’t have all these guys,” Brandenburg said. “I feel they have a pretty good shot of getting top five at State Duals, as there are teams there we would be able to beat.”

The Bulldogs finish their regular season with a dual record of 33-8.
