Dangerously cold wind chills moving in

Dangerously cold wind chills are expected this week with the coldest wind chills expected Tuesday morning to reach 39 degrees below zero.

Albert Lea is under a cold weather advisory from midnight Sunday to 10 a.m. Monday, after which wind chills will improve during the day to between -10 and -20 degrees, according to the National Weather Service. An extreme cold warning has been issued from late Monday night through Tuesday morning.

Compared to Monday, Tuesday morning will see slightly weaker winds but also slightly lower air temperatures, resulting in similar wind chills from -35 to -45 degrees.

Dangerous cold wind chills are also expected Wednesday and Thursday before warming up by the weekend.

The weather agency states dangerously cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes.

People should dress in layers including a hat, face mask and gloves if they must go outside.

Use caution while traveling outside. Wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves.
