To all of the wrestlers participating in the state tournaments.
Congratulations to the wrestlers from Lake Mills and Northwood-Kensett schools who participated in the Iowa state wrestling tournament this week and to the wrestlers from this area in Minnesota who will compete in the upcoming Minnesota state wrestling tournament.
As of press time, the final results were still not back on the last day of the Iowa tournament.
The Albert Lea team has qualified to compete in the Minnesota state team tournament, along with wrestler Maggie Olson in the state girls’ tournament. Wrestlers will compete Saturday to find out who will qualify individually to wrestle.
We congratulate all of them for their hard work in getting this far, and we look forward to seeing the outcome of the tournaments.
To the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners approving a contract with a new county administrator.
We were pleased to see the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners this week approve the employment contract with Melanie Aeschliman to become the county’s next administrator.
It was unclear for a while whether Aeschliman and the county would be able to negotiate an agreement, but after further negotiations, they were able to do so.
Aeschliman was one of four candidates the board interviewed for the role of administrator after former administrator Ryan Rasmusson resigned for a new opportunity.
Aeschliman is slated to begin March 24, and we wish her well in the new role.
To the new choir being formed for area people with dementia and their caregivers.
Thanks to former Albert Lea High School choir director Diane Heaney and all others who might be a part of starting up a new choir for people with dementia and their caregivers.
The choir will rehearse weekly from March 27 through June 5 with a performance slated for June 7.
We think the choir will benefit many in the community, and we look forward to hearing of its success.
