Freeborn County man dies after snowmobile crash in northeastern Minnesota

A Freeborn County man died Thursday night after a snowmobile crash in St. Louis County.

According to the St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office, a 72-year-old Glenville man was trail riding with friends in Crane Lake Township at 9:15 p.m. Thursday when he veered off the trail and struck a tree.

Friends of the victim rendered aid until medical personnel arrived, but the man ultimately succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased, a press release stated.

The name of the man has not been released pending family notification.

According to the release, the cause of the crash is unknown, but speed may have been a factor.

The St. Louis County Sheriff’s Office was assisted by several fire departments, first responders and the medical examiner’s office.
