Events at the Broadway on Saturday will host a new concert experience, which, according to its organizer, Isaiah “DJ” Kessel, will be unlike anything the city has had in the past.

The event, ALive!, is a concert with both live performances and DJs. Local bands will begin playing at 7 p.m. with DJ Kessel and “his team” starting at 10 p.m. Additionally, there will be a raffle every hour with cash and gift cards from local businesses.

Kessel, who was born and raised in Albert Lea, has been a professional DJ for about 10 years and has lived and worked in the Twin Cities for seven years. He said he has always been passionate about music, as well as giving people opportunities to experience music.

“Music is my life,” Kessel said.

Though he is based in the Twin Cities, Kessel returns to his hometown regularly to provide music for community events such as the New Year’s Rock On Ice event at the City Arena and teen night at the Albert Lea Aquatic Center.

According to Kessel, he has wanted to create an event like this for years, but has not felt like it was the right time in his career to do so until now.

“I’ve achieved everything I’ve wanted as a DJ, and I’ve built a large enough network to

confidently put something together in my city that can make a big impact and positive change,” said Kessel in a press release.

He said his goal was to create a space where people could experience a fun nightlife in a safe environment, explaining that people may not feel comfortable going out to a bar. He also said he wanted to bring people an experience they would ordinarily have to go to the Cities to have.

A few months ago, Kessel decided to make his vision a reality and began putting together a team. This included his events coordinator and manager Trey Talamantes and Nate Worden, former production manager of the Pourhouse in Minneapolis, as well as music artists from the Albert Lea area and the Twin Cities. The bands include Unwoke, Vato Por Vida, LiMiT and Dabo Flai. DJ Eclypse will handle the sets for the artists.

“This is a team effort,” Kessel said.

He said they chose the venue they did because it worked with the big vision they had for the event.

Kessel said he wants to use this concert to shed light on the talented artists in the area and hopes these events will become a regular occurrence in the city.

Kessel also wanted people to know that this is not just an event for young people in their 20s. The bands, he said, feature people with a wide variety of ages, the oldest being in their 50s. All ages of adults are welcome.

Tickets to the ALive! concert are $20, and people must be 18 or older to attend.
