I want to commend and support the clear and eloquent piece written by Joe Pacovsky entitled “Shame on All of Us,” putting the current state of our country in perspective.

We have seen this “movie” before. My father, Clarence Schroeder, ensured that my brothers and myself knew the storyline based on his experience in World War II. He flew 57 missions over Germany, risking his life to fight against the tyranny and destruction of the Nazi regime. Not only did he show us the shrapnel that almost took his life more than once, he also showed us the pictures he took two days after Buchenwald was liberated. I have always known what piles of half burned bodies and human ash looks like — snapshots that were repeated in Ukraine in our lifetime. Autocratic destructive forces never retreat when others capitulate. I will never forget — let’s hope none of us do.
