Man sentenced to 45 days in jail, 5 years of probation for soliciting child

A 22-year-old Albert Lea man was sentenced to 45 days in jail, a stayed 25-month prison sentence and five years of supervised probation on Thursday in Freeborn County District Court for felony soliciting a child over text messages to engage in sexual conduct.

Brock James Barrientos pleaded guilty to the charge in September.

Court records stated Barrientos had been texting a 14-year-old girl in April 2023 for about a month and that even after she attempted to block him numerous times, he would contact her with different numbers.

According to online court records, Barrientos was approved to serve his jail sentence as work release if he is employed. He will report to jail on March 5.

As part of his sentence, Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning also ordered Barrientos have no unsupervised contact with minors or vulnerable adults. If contact is approved, the individual providing supervision must be pre-approved by probation and treatment agents.

He must also have no access to or use of the internet without approval. He must disclose all electronic devices to his agent and be subject to monitoring software as directed by his agent.

He must attend a sex offender program and follow all the recommendations from a psychological-sexual evaluation, among other conditions.
