My Point of View by Don Sorensen
Noon Jan. 20, 2025, the dark clouds of doom and gloom that have been cloaking America for the past four years were ripped asunder as Donald J. Trump stepped forward to accept the mantel of leadership of America and the free world.
A singing wind of enthusiasm is sweeping across this great nation. You can feel it in the air and in the coffee shops.
As I watched Trump’s inauguration I was struck by the enthusiasm, optimism and euphoria. I have listened to or watched every presidential inauguration address since 1941 when I sat on my father’s lap as he listened to FDR’s third inaugural address. The only inauguration that even came close to Trump’s was John F. Kennedy’s 1961 inauguration; the enthusiasm was as infectious then as it is now, and Kennedy’s vision for America was similar. I’ll never forget his proclamation “Ask not what your country can do for you, but what you can do for your country.”
President Trump signed countless executive orders in his first weeks in office. The dearest to my heart was banning transgender men from women’s sports, locker rooms and restrooms. That this was acceptable had to come from the darkest recesses of some demented soul.
These decrees will undoubtedly be met by a flurry of lawsuits. Should that be the case Trump’s appointment of three conservative justices to the Supreme Court in his first term will prove to be fortuitous as the majority of these lawsuits should wind up in the waste basket of history, or force Congress to act.
Perhaps the fiasco of Biden’s term was heaven sent. Americans watched with trepidation as the radical left dissembled and trampled on the Constitution. Encouraged 14 million illegal immigrants to invade America. Promoted the false premise of green energy. Encouraged and gave minuscule radical splinter groups the ability to foist their morals on America. Refused to condemn antisemitism or prosecute crime, destroyed the economy and made America irrelevant on the world stage.
The four-year interlude gave Trump time to define his goals and recruit America’s finest to his cause. It allowed the MAGA movement time to revitalize the Republican Party, which is no longer the stodgy “Go along to get along” party of yesteryear, but an invigorated party with a big tent open to all. A young, dynamic generation has assumed leadership roles. The MAGA movement is flourishing; its bench is incredibly deep and talented. Those of us cheering from the bleachers are fully committed, and our numbers are growing.
Trump’s stamina, confidence, wisdom, determination and negotiating skills astound me. He has been chided for inviting some of America’s richest to the inauguration, but this action was very astute. It is better to have your critics inside the tent than outside trying to burn it down.
These individuals have the wherewithal to invest in America.
The personnel Trump is appointing to lead his administration are not retreaded quasi-conservative bureaucrats, but successful business men/woman and highly qualified individuals from outside the beltway who share Trump’s vision, with the ability to think outside the box and have a “Let’s “get’er done” philosophy.
Trump’s video conference with the self-righteous global elitists at Davos raised my level of respect for him. He did not bow-down, but looked them in the eye and eloquently proclaimed an America first policy would take precedence over their global initiatives.
Only Trump would have the courage to propose the Gaza Strip solution. It may not fly, but the whole world is talking and thinking.
President Trump’s first weeks as president can be only described as shock and awe. No president has ever acted so quickly and decisively. The legacy media is recoiling in shock. The Deep State is running for cover. The Democratic Party is in disarray.
Democratic senators are acting like petulant 2-year-old children at the confirmation hearings. They are not looking for the truth or qualifications, but spend their time in tirades condemning every nominee. Once their rant begins, it is not possible for a nominee to answer or defend themselves. Every question is a gotcha question. They should be ashamed of themselves. But then, they’re Democrats, they don’t know any better.
Perhaps now is time for the old school moderate Democrats to take a very hard look at their party’s radical goals, put aside what divides America and focus on what could unite us!
President Trump could go down as one of the greatest leaders in history. There has been no one like him in the modern era. I believe he has a guardian angel guiding and protecting him.
The question becomes, as Americans, do we have the wisdom to join hands and build a revitalized America or are we content to continue down the path to a failed Socialist State?
We are living in historic times!
