Schott Funeral Homes-Mittelstadt Chapel in Lake Mills has been entrusted to care for Susan and her family.

Susan Andrea Hayer was born on June 28, 1955 in St. Peter, Minnesota to parents Andrew Jr. and Doris (Deno) Hayer. She graduated from St. Peter High School. On July 12, 1974, Sue was united in marriage with Kevin Wagner in LeSueur, Minnesota. They were blessed with two children: Andrea and Daniel.

Sue Wagner had lived in Emmons for over 43 years, and for the past 34 years, she was the Freeborn County Deputy Registrar at the Freeborn County Courthouse in Albert Lea. She had never been known for sitting idle; her list of hobbies and activities is extensive. She was a member of Emmons Lutheran Church involved in circle and ladies’ aid. In the community of Emmons, Sue was a member of the civic club, card club and enjoyed playing Bridge. She also liked cross stitching, league bowling, bowling tournaments, and was a wonderful volunteer to rely upon.

Family was very important to Sue and she loved spending time with them, especially her six grandchildren. They brought her much joy and it was a delight to attend as many games, concerts, and recitals as possible. She loved driving trips with Kevin and taking family vacations. Having grown up on a farm, Sue always had an affinity towards horses and other animals.

Sue’s cancer diagnosis was recent and she faced the challenge gracefully with her family by her side.

She will be greatly missed by her husband, Kevin of Emmons, MN; daughter Andrea (Adam) Manthei of Victoria, MN; son Dan (Jess) Wagner of Owatonna, MN; six grandchildren Sam, Micah, Joseph & Talia Manthei and Henry & Fiona Wagner; a brother Gary (Jean) Hayer of St. Peter, MN; and a sister Nancy (Duane) Duehn of Maple Grove, MN.

Also surviving are the Wagner relatives: brothers- and sisters-in-law Nancy & Duane McVenus of Mankato, MN, Mel Frost of Muldoon, TX, Dave & Tina Wagner of LeSueur, MN, and Pam & Mer Kent of Plymouth, MN; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Those preceding Susan in death were her parents Andy and Doris Hayer; in-laws Leroy and Elaine Wagner; and a brother-in-law Jack Frost.
