Wind chills to dip as cold as 30 below tonight

Freeborn County and the surrounding area are under a cold weather advisory overnight Wednesday into Thursday morning as wind chills are expected to dip to between 25 and 30 below zero.

The cold wind chills as low as 30 below zero could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 10 minutes, according to the Weather Service.

The agency advises people to use caution while traveling outside and to wear appropriate clothing, a hat and gloves.

The advisory is in effect from midnight to 9 a.m. Thursday.

People should make frequent checks make frequent checks on older family, friends and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly. Do not use generators or grills inside.
