Nearly 50 community members joined the Democratic-Farmer-Labor Party for coffee on March 1. The Freeborn County DFL has seen a rise in newcomers since Trump’s inauguration.
The DFL coffees are informal events. Those who attend have an opportunity to introduce themselves and speak.
Many expressed their concerns about the cuts to federal programs like Social Security, Medicaid and other programs. Participants shared ideas to participate in democracy, such as calling state and federal representatives to let them know that these cuts would harm vulnerable people in our communities.
Freeborn County DFL coffees are held the first Saturday of each month at 10 a.m. at Main Street Family Restaurant in Albert Lea and are open to everyone. If anyone has any questions or would like to get involved, they may contact freeborncountydfl@gmail.com.
