It is with great love in our hearts and much sadness on our minds that the family of Marcella Kay Bergerson announces her passing. After her third battle with cancer in the last six years, she passed away on February 22nd at 6:44pm at the Providence Medical Center in Everett, WA. She would have turned 79 the first week in March. She will be laid to rest next to her son, Mark Earl Bergerson, at the Lime Creek Cemetery in Emmons, MN. The date will be announced at a later time.
Marcella was an amazing woman who made an impact on many people and will be remembered for being kind, helpful, caring, genuine and giving of an amazing amount of love to family and friends. She was born in Albert Lea, MN and grew up with many amazing memories of her parents and 8 siblings on a farm just outside of Emmons, MN. On the farm, surrounded by her family, she learned an honest work ethic and to be very proud of her heritage.
While raising a family, she worked at First Bank in Albert Lea, MN. She was steadfast in her faith and belonged to Emmons Lutheran Church from birth through most of her adulthood. In 1987 Marcella, Mike and family relocated to La Crescent, MN. She was an executive administrator at Skemp clinic in La Crosse, WI, and an administrative assistant at the University of Wisconsin La Crosse. She worked hard to give her kids all the opportunities to grow in sports, music or whatever they were passionate about.
After retirement, Mike and Marcella moved to Lake Stevens, WA, to be closer to their son, daughter, and grandkids. She belonged to the Ebenezer Lutheran church for approximately 20 years, where she continued to make an impact on the people she met by getting involved in groups at the church. Her hobbies consisted of spending time with family, sewing, quilting, knitting, crocheting, basket weaving, and baking. She also excelled in gardening, taking pride in her rose bushes and the many other flowers she skillfully nurtured.
She was passionate about quilting, winning many awards at events and fairs. She was enthusiastically involved in many sewing and quilting groups, teaching people of all ages how to put many hours of work and skill into creating a piece of art that could be passed along as a loving token to others. Impressive was the time, energy, and expertise she put into those projects and the pride she took in helping others become skilled in creating quilts.
Marcella is survived by her husband of 61 years, Michael Dean Bergerson, her 8 brothers and sisters of the Honsey family and their children and grandchildren, her son Jon Bergerson of Bellevue WA, her daughter Debra Bergerson of Bothell WA, and grandchildren Max and Kiana Bergerson.
There will be a funeral service at the Ebenezer Lutheran Church in Lake Stevens, WA held on March 12th at 10:30 am with lunch, cookies and drinks to follow. She will be missed immensely by her family and the many people who have been fortunate enough to get to know her. During this time of loss and sadness, her husband, son, daughter and grandkids will take a bit of solace in the memories of the inspiration she will always be to us. We love you Marcella, as the wonderful wife, mom, grandmother and person you were. You are remembered and missed by many.
