MR/USC’s Gonzalez falls in consolation bracket

Maple River/United South Central sophomore Noah Gonzalez was the lone qualifier for the program to make it to day two of the Minnesota state wrestling tournament.
After two wins and a loss on day one, Gonzalez followed up with a consolation loss Saturday morning, ending the team’s run at the tournament.
In the quarterfinals at 127 pounds, Gonzalez squared off with No. 10-ranked Vincente Lopez-March from Minneapolis Edison and lost in a 12-7 decision. Once in the consolation bracket, Gonzalez dominated in a 12-0 decision win over Henry Pestegaard from Cretin Durham Hall. He then went on to face No. 4 Adam Perish from Cannon Falls in the next round where he fell victim to a 12-2 major decision, ending his tournament.
Gonzalez ends this season with a 36-10 record.
Maple River/United South Central’s other two qualifiers Isaiah Gonzalez at 133 pounds and Byron Getchell at 160 pounds, both failed to earn a wrestleback after falling in their opening round matches. Isaiah Gonzalez ends his season with a 32-12 record and Getchell finishes with a 28-4 record.
