A 16-year-old St. Ansgar boy died Saturday morning after a vehicle crash west of Kensett.

Ayden Steele, 16, was listed as the passenger of a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix driven by 20-year-old Blair Hansen, also of St. Ansgar. 

The Iowa State Patrol stated the Pontiac was eastbound on 410th Street near Killdeer Avenue at 6:40 a.m. when Hansen lost control of the vehicle and the vehicle entered the north ditch, striking a power pole and coming to rest in the ditch. 

Steele and Hansen, who was also injured, were taken to MercyOne North Iowa. 

Hansen’s condition as of Sunday afternoon was not known. 

Both occupants were listed as wearing their seat belts. 

The State Patrol was assisted by the Worth County Sheriff’s Office, Northwood and Kensett fire departments, Northwood EMS, MercyOne Airmed and Alliant Energy.
