Dana Waltz

Dana Waltz passed away unexpectedly on Wednesday, April 9, 2025, at St. Mary’s Hospital in Rochester, MN.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 12, 2025, at 10:30 AM at Brick-Meger Funeral Home (1603 Austin Rd, Owatonna, MN). Friends may greet the family from 5:00 to 7:00 PM Friday, April 11, 2025, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be at LeSueur River Lutheran Cemetery in rural New Richland, MN. Military Honors will be provided by the Steele County Funeral Unit.

Dana was born June 9, 1955, in Albert Lea, MN, to Dean and Doris (Sandsmark) Waltz.

Dana graduated from Ellendale High School in 1974. After high school, Dana joined the Army. When he returned from military service, he was self-employed at various jobs. First, he was a farmer.  He raised buffalo for over 30 years.  He also owned his own septic service business and a tree trimming business.  

Dana could pretty much fix anything and enjoyed restoring old cars. He enjoyed his German Shepherd dogs Queenie and King and raised many litters of pups. Dana would also help anyone out with anything, anytime, day or night. He was involved in many activities throughout the years with his high school friend, Jim Misgen. He spoke with many friends each day on the phone, and they were all very special to him. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

Dana is survived by siblings: Daryl (Donna) Waltz, Dale (Debbie) Waltz, Dalys (Diane) Waltz, Darla (Hallie) Pruitt, Dalare (John) Delaney, Dylan (Jennifer) Waltz, and Darcy (Yeni) Waltz; many nieces, nephews, great-nephews, and great-nieces; aunts Kitty Sandsmark and Darlene Fraley; and long-time special friend, Darcy Lehman.

Dana is preceded in death by his parents, Dean and Doris; stepmother Dorothy, and stepfather Arza Palmer; grandparents, aunts and uncles; and sister-in-law Lynn Waltz.
