Kathryn “Kate” Kalvig

The family will host a Life Celebration and Graveside service for Kate at a later date in Glenville, MN. Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery in Albert Lea, MN.

Born on August 21, 1949, in Beatrice, NE, Kate was the cherished daughter of Hubert and Patricia “Pat” Weis. She brought joy and laughter to all who knew her, and her vibrant spirit will be sorely missed.

Kate’s life was a tapestry of love and adventure. She married the love of her life, Harold “Buckwheat” Kalvig, on June 3, 1967, in Hudson, IA. Together, they shared a passion for the open road, with Harold as an over-the-road truck driver and Kate as his devoted companion. Their journeys took them across the country, creating a lifetime of memories. Sadly, Harold passed away before her on September 25, 2024, and she was also preceded in death by her parents and her son, Mike Kalvig.

Kate’s legacy continues through her loving family. She is survived by her son, Russ Kalvig (Mary) of New London, MO; her sister, Pam Bock (Denny) of Plano, TX; her five grandchildren: Jessica, Justin, Cody, Tanner, and Marissa; and her six great-grandchildren, who will all remember her as a loving and fun grandmother.

Throughout her life, Kate found joy in the simple pleasures. She took pride in her work at “Trail’s Truck Stop” in Albert Lea, MN, where she was a well-known and beloved figure. Her sense of humor and caring nature made her a favorite among both the staff and the customers.

Kate’s interests were as vibrant and varied as her personality. She loved the thrill of riding on their three-wheel Harley Davidson motorcycle, always with a beaming smile on her face. An avid sports fan, Kate dedicated her Sundays to cheering on her Minnesota Vikings and later developed a fondness for the Kansas City Chiefs, particularly quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Her afternoons were often spent engrossed in the drama “The Young and the Restless” and challenging herself with game shows like “Let’s Make a Deal.”

Always one to enjoy life’s little luxuries, Kate loved getting her hair and nails done, ensuring she always looked her best. Her memorable quotes, “For Cool!” and “Now, Mom says,” will continue to resonate with those who knew her and bring smiles to their faces when they remember her unique spirit.

Kate was the embodiment of love, humor, and adventure. Her infectious laughter and willingness to embrace life’s journeys made her a beacon of light in the lives of her family and friends. She was a woman who lived life to the fullest, with a heart full of love and a spirit that could never be tamed. As we bid farewell to Kate, we honor her memory by reflecting on the joy she brought into our lives.
