Man arrested after gunshots fired in Albert Lea

A man was arrested Sunday night after a report of gunshots fired on Clayton Avenue in southern Albert Lea.

Police were dispatched to 2416 Clayton Ave. at 7:45 p.m. When officers arrived, they were advised a male was seen fleeing the area on foot.

According to a news release, officers quickly established a perimeter and apprehended the suspect, identified as Jacob Allen Dale, 21, following a brief foot pursuit.

Investigation revealed that an altercation had occurred at the residence involving Dale, his sister and other people. During the incident, Dale allegedly discharged a firearm, striking a vehicle as it was leaving the residence. No injuries from the gunfire were reported, but the incident involved a young child who was present during the altercation.

Officers recovered a handgun at the scene and collected additional evidence, including shell casings and witness statements. Dale was arrested and transported to the Freeborn County jail, where he remains in custody pending formal charges related to domestic assault and reckless discharge of a firearm.

The Albert Lea Police Department thanked the Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance and commended the swift actions of all responding officers in ensuring the safety of the neighborhood.

The investigation remains ongoing.
