Robert C. Solum

Robert C. Solum, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on April 23, 2025. He was hit hard and fast with Leukemia and gave it a good fight but lost his battle and headed to heaven to join his goldendoodle, Charnay, and his daughter-in-law Tracie. They were waiting for him with a wagging tail and a huge hug.
He was born in Albert Lea, MN, on February 16, 1943, to Chester and Ardine (Jahnke) Solum. He grew up on the family farm in Alden, MN. Bob graduated from Alden High School and enjoyed going to class reunions and talking about the old days.
Robert married Pat Egland in 1964, and they were blessed with three children, Traci, Todd, and Tim. They were later divorced. He married Jean Drake Buck in 1999. They traveled many fun roads together always holding each other’s hand.
Robert worked for Atlas Pacific Engineering Company, working in sales and service in the food processing plants located primarily on the west coast. He retired in 2008 and started doing woodworking and making many beautiful pieces for his family and friends. His favorite pastime was fishing at the Lake of The Woods and spent many hours preparing for his trips and getting all of his equipment ready.
He will be dearly missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Jean Solum; children, Traci Solum, Todd (Kristy) Solum, Tim (Tammy) Solum; stepchildren, Jennifer (Marty) Kukuczka, Jason (Maria) Buck, Julie (Brent) Brass; grandchildren Stephanie, Anthony, Tayler, Benjamin, Marissa, Afton and Brooke; step-grandchildren, Jordan, Samuel, Liam and Madilyn; and 7 great-grandchildren; siblings, Mary Frisbie, David Solum, and Judy Oelerking.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Ardine Solum; brother, Gary Solum; sister, Diane Heine; daughter-in-law, Tracie Solum; sister-in-law, VeeAnn Solum.
Visitation will be at Michaelson Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4PM to 7PM. Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 30, 2025, at 11AM at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church with a visitation starting one hour prior to the service. Memorials are preferred to the Steele County Humane Society, or Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Owatonna.
