An Albert Lea man who was working as a substitute temporary custodian at Alden-Conger School is facing a charge of third-degree drug possession after he reportedly dropped a small bag of methamphetamine in the cafeteria in the school.
Jamie Rivan Hendricks, 54, appeared on the charge on Thursday in Freeborn County District Court.
Court documents stated school authorities alerted the Alden police chief April 14 to a substance found at the school that was thought to be illegal drugs.
The superintendent told the officer a camera had captured the individual who dropped the bag on video.
The male was reportedly seen in the video walking across the screen with his hand at and in his pocket, until at one point he is seen dropping something that looked like the bag that was recovered.
Another custodian is seen in the video picking up the bag.
School authorities identified the man to authorities, who was working as a new substitute temporary custodian.
Court records state when Hendricks was asked whether it was him in the video, he reportedly said, “it looks like me.” He watched the video a second time, after which he reportedly confirmed it was him but denied any knowledge of the bag that he dropped in the video or where it came from.
The bag was found to contain 1 gram of meth.
Freeborn County District Court Judge Ross Leuning ordered Hendricks be allowed to be released on his promise to appear for his next hearing, while following a series of conditions. Unconditional bail was set at $20,000.
