Alfred Oscar “Bud” Johnson passed away on Sunday, April 20th, 2025 in Mankato. A small family service will be held at a later date.

Bud was born to Alfred and Olivia (Nesterud) Johnson in Lamberton Minnesota October 29th, 1933. Bud had a loving sister; Opal, and two rambunctious brothers; LaVern and Merle. In 1942 the Johnsons moved to Madelia Minnesota, where Bud graduated from Madelia High School. In his youth Bud worked for Adolf Larson stocking shelves and delivering groceries. After finishing school, Bud worked for Delmar-Fanning Construction and Nesterud Construction.

In 1952 Bud married his high school sweetheart, Janice Johnson, and began his 30 year long career at Gopher Concrete. In 1953 Bud and Janice had a son, Jeffrey Alan. In 1980, Bud and Jeff purchased a precast concrete business in Albert Lea and in 1990 moved the business to Alden, Minnesota. In 1995 as the business expanded, Bud and Jeff sold the business to Wells Concrete in Wells, Minnesota, where Bud continued to serve as a consultant. Bud’s forever girl Janice passed away in 2013, leaving Bud to focus on spending time with his son’s blossoming family, and more work to fill his time.

 Bud began filling his spare time driving transportation vans for AmeriCare Mobility Van out of Mankato, assisting people get to and from their medical appointments. Bud retired from driving at age 89, but soon joined his son Jeff again, working at Cowboy Clocks and Caning. Bud spent his time re-caning wicker chairs until his official retirement at age 91.

Bud is preceded in death by his wife Janice, parents, Alfred and Olivia, mother and father-in-law Kenneth and Gladys Johnson, sister and brother-in-law Opal and Richard Sanders, Shirley Jahnz, Harley Janz, Glenys Ehlers, and Larry Pederson.

Bud is survived by his son and daughter-in-law Jeff and Carol Johnson, grandchildren; Jake (Christina) Johnson and Josh (Bridgette) Johnson, great-grandchildren; Bjorn, Nicolas, Isaac, Leif, Asher, Nora and Sawyer. Bud is also survived by his brothers LaVern and Merle, and sister-in-law Gayle Pederson, as well as many nieces and nephews.
