The city of Albert Lea released the following updates about construction projects in the city.

  • Sibley Avenue and Marshall Street reconstruction: Crews removed pavement, curb and gutter along Sibley Avenue this week. They are replacing a deep storm sewer manhole at the intersection of East Main and Sibley Avenue, requiring a detour of westbound traffic on East Main to Front Street. That detour should end early next week after crews finish the manhole installation and patch the pavement on East Main. Work will continue next week to replace storm sewers on Sibley Avenue.
  • 11th Street reconstruction: This week, the contractor began setting up a temporary water supply to serve affected properties during the watermain replacement. Next week, pavement and curb removal will begin, followed by replacement of the sanitary sewer and perhaps the watermain.
  • City Arena: The contractor has poured all the footings and foundation walls for the lobby addition. Repairs to the structural beams are near completion. Work continues to update all electrical panels and wiring. Work has started to remodel the Recreation Office, skate rental area, and the area for the new conference room and ticket booth.
  • Aquatic Center: The new boilers for the main pool and domestic water heaters have arrived with installation starting soon. Remodeling of the entrance will happen in the fall to prevent disruption to the swimming season. The Aquatic Center will open June 6, weather permitting.
