The city of Albert Lea issued the following construction updates:

  • Marshall Street and Sibley Avenue reconstruction: The contractor has completed the large manhole replacement at the intersection of East Main Street and Sibley Avenue. Crews have patched East Main Street and it reopened to westbound traffic this morning. Next week, the contractor will complete the storm sewer installation on Sibley Avenue, then begin replacing the watermain and sanitary sewer. If time allows, sewer and water service replacements to the affected properties will also begin.
  • 11th Street reconstruction: The contractor has switched affected properties to temporary water service, and removed the pavement and curb. Replacement of the sanitary sewer and watermain is scheduled to begin next week.
  • City Arena: The new front lobby footings and wall are complete. The contractor will start the steel erection by the end of May. Masons are working on doorways and block work for the new lobby, office area, ticket booth and small conference room. Upgrades to the electrical system continue. The construction management firm is working on a new schedule for the refrigeration system and Colstrup rink floor.
  • Aquatic Center: Contractors have installed the new water-heating systems with electrical updates to wrap up next week. Moving the front entrance will take place after the center closes in late summer.
