A 39-year-old Albert Lea man charged with selling a pound of methamphetamine to a South Central Drug Investigation Unit informant last July pleaded guilty recently in Freeborn County District Court to a lesser charge as part of a plea agreement.
Aruan Enrique Campa had initially been charged with first-degree drug sale in the case, but pleaded guilty to an amended third-degree possession of a controlled substance as part of the agreement.
According to court documents, the informant reportedly purchased the drugs at Campa’s residence on the 200 block of Morningside Road.
An agent reviewed the video of the transaction and positively identified Campa packing meth in multiple baggies while speaking with the informant.
The plea agreement calls for a prison term of 68 months plus a three-month enhancement cap. In addition to pleading guilty to the lesser charge, the prosecution also agreed to dismiss a charge of meth possession in a separate case.
Sentencing is slated for July 3.
Campa has been convicted of previous drug offenses, including a first-degree controlled substance offense in 2015.
