Marcia Leatrice Moyer passed away on May 3, 2025, at St. John’s Woodlands. A funeral Service will be held at 11 AM on Friday, May 16,at the United Methodist Church in Albert Lea, MN. Pastor Don Malinsky will be officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service at the church.  Burial will be at Hillcrest Cemetery.

Marcia Leatrice (Gaarder) Moyer was born on August 7, 1927, in Otranto, Iowa to Morris and Velma (Pope) Gaarder. She attended Ramsey Elementary School and graduated from Albert Lea High School. After graduating, she was employed at Freeborn County Coop Oil as a bookkeeper for 10 years.

In 1946, she married Jerome Moyer at the First Methodist Church in Albert Lea. During her husband’s employment as a hog buyer for Wilson Co., they lived for a short time in Estherville, Iowa and Welcome, MN before returning to Albert Lea. At that time, son, Michael and daughter, Julie, were born. Marcia was a stay-at-home homemaker until she was employed with School District 241 in the food service. She worked for the school district for 25 years.

Marcia was a faithful member of the United Methodist Church and served on the Communion Committee, Worship Committee, and UMW member in several positions. She was also a member of church circles and the Christian Women’s Club in Austin, MN. Marcia enjoyed reading, sewing, walking, meeting with friends, and planting her flowers. Marcia’s joy and love was her loving family. She was so grateful for their constant love and support.

Marcia is survived by her son, Michael (Sheri) Moyer of Maple Grove; daughter, Julie (Kevin) Richardson of Albert Lea; grandchildren, Kim (Adam) Hair, Jolene (Kevin) Hemann, Jessica (Ben) Laue, Nicholas and Jordan Moyer; great-grandchildren, Eliot, Samual, Ellamae and Olivia Hair and Vada Hemann; brother-in-law Robert Jacobson; sisters-in-law, Trudi Gaarder, Vi Moyer and Joan Moyer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jerome; parents, Morris and Velma Gaarder; brother, Robert Gaarder; Brothers-in-law, Gordan Moyer, Dalis Moyer, Ross Moyer; sisters-in-law, Joyce Grescyzk, Marilou Jacobson; father and mother-in-law, Ferris and Alma Moyer.

The family would like to thank the St. John’s Woodlands staff and Mayo Hospice for their excellent care.

Memorials are preferred to the United Methodist Church or donor’s choice.
