Concerned citizens will rally outside the Freeborn County courthouse in Albert Lea at 5 p.m. Thursday in support of the U.S. Constitution.
According to a press release, the current administration is refusing to honor judicial decisions, saying that they alone can decide the laws of the nation, butthat is not how the government works.
The press release states the executive branch has never held such power over other governmental agencies and stated this administration has revoked due process by sending people to foreign countries without following court orders and canceled funding that was approved by Congress for environmental justice work, diversity-equity-inclusion programs and other work. It has also accepted gifts from foreign governments in violation of the emoluments clause and created a new governmental agency, DOGE, that is stripping agencies of power and money and staff.
The administration has also refused to comply with Supreme Court decisions, as in the case of Kilmar Abrego Garcia, who was in the country legally, and has now been detained in an El Salvadoran prison for months.
Concerned citizens are gathering to demand that the Constitution be protected.
