- The Albert Lea boys’ track and field team placed 11th at the Big Nine Conference Track and Field Meet held at Mankato East High School. Caleb Troe was the top finisher for the Tigers with a second place finish in the 3200-meter run with a time of 10.03.48.
- Chris Enderson pitched a complete game, allowing five hits and four runs as the Albert Lea baseball team defeated Maple River 6-4 in a sub-section 2AA South quarterfinals game played at Hayek Field. Mason Hammer had two RBIs for the Tigers.
- The Albert Lea girls’ track and field team also placed 11th at the Big 9 Conference girls’ meet in Mankato. Albert Lea’s top finisher was Sarah DeHaan who placed second in the high jump with a leap of 5’2.”
20 years
- The Glenville- Emmons baseball team defeated Spring Grove 6-2. With the win, the Wolverines finished their regular season 17-2, including a 10-0 record in the Southeast Conference. Devin Kaasa threw a complete game three-hitter to pick up the win. John Kluender went 3-for-4 with a home run in the game.
- The Albert Lea girls’ golf team placed sixth at the Big 9 Conference girls’ golf meet held at the North Links Gold Club in Mankato. Kelli Hanson shot a 96 to lead the Tigers with Mariah Howe carding a 99.
- The Albert Lea boys’ golf team finished in ninth place at the Big 9 Conference boys’ golf meet held in Faribault. Matt Bennett shot a 79 to lead the Tigers.
- After claiming its third consecutive Southeast Conference Championship, the Glenville-Emmons boys’ golf team finished seventh in the sub-section tournament held in St. Peter. Kelsey Martinson shot an 82 to lead the Wolverines.
50 years
- Dave Berg allowed only three hits and one run as the Albert Lea Tigers baseball team defeated previously unbeaten Rochester John Marshall 3-1 at Hayek Field. John Dzuira, Paul Nies and Berg had RBIs in the win.
- Gary Koeder of Albert Lea was helping organizing the Elbow Room men’s slow pitch softball tournament that was being played at Snyder Fields.
- The Albert Lea girls’ track team finished in seventh place at the Big 9 Conference track meet held at Hammer Stadium. Big 9 records were broken in 11 of the 14 events with Albert Lea’s Marilyn Claassen breaking one of them with a toss over 110 feet in the discus.
- Minnesota Twins Youth Clinic Director Angelo Giuliani had 62 boys attend a fundamentals of baseball clinic held at Hayek Field.
- Dave Knutson of Albert Lea shot a one-over par 73 for 18 holes to take the Freeborn County Golf Tournament held at the Oakview Golf Course in Freeborn.
- The Albert Lea b-squad baseball team defeated Rochester John Marshall 10-2 to take their fifth straight win. Tim Bachtle and Bob Reiter hit home runs in the game. Rick Bellrichard got the win on the mound, allowing only six hits.
- The Albert Lea boys’ golf team took fourth place at the Big 9 Conference golf meet held in Austin. Mark Knutson shot a 113 to lead the Tigers with Jeff Elseth right behind him with a 114.
- A bases loaded single by Reid Sippe in the bottom of the seventh inning gave Alden a 5-4 win over Glenville in the opening round of the District II baseball tournament. Kim Svenningsen picked up the win on the mound for the Blackhawks.
- The Albert Lea boys’ track team under coach Jerry Kaphers finished fifth in the Big 9 Conference boys’ track meet held in Austin. Mark Simunds set a school record in the 440 with a time of 49.5. Rory Larson tied the school pole vault record with a vault of 13’0.”
- At the Big 9 Conference boys’ tennis meet held in Rochester, coach Wayne Grinnell’s Tigers took fifth place. The doubles teams of Dan Mott and Dan Olson, along with Bob Shepard and Jeff Aspenson, won their first-round matches before falling in the second round.
