The city of Albert Lea provided the following update about construction projects underway:

  • Blazing Star State Trail: The contractor is making progress on building the bridge to extend the Blazing Star State Trail between Myre-Big Island State Park and Hayward. After pausing work to allow the bridge foundation to settle, crews resumed work this past week. This Minnesota Department of Natural Resources project is slated for completion late this year. For information, including the construction map, visit www.dnr.state.mn.us/state_trails/blazingstar/index.html.
  • Marshall Street and Sibley Avenue reconstruction: Progress was limited this week due to rainy weather. Storm sewer replacement work continues on Sibley Avenue. Up next is replacement of the watermain and sanitary sewer.
  • 11th Street reconstruction: The contractor has removed the pavement and the temporary water supply is in place with watermain and sanitary sewer replacement scheduled for next week.
  • City Arena: The expanded lobby is taking shape with the concrete floor poured on Thursday and framework set for next week. Installation of the solar panels on the roof of the Colstrup Rink is underway.
  • Aquatic Center: The contractor is working to complete installation of the new electrical and water-heating systems. Recreation staff is preparing the Aquatic Center for opening on June 6. Remodeling the entrance will occur after the center closes for the season late this summer.
