The city of Albert Lea gave the following updates on construction projects:
• Downtown restrooms: Site prep has started for the new restrooms near the splash pad downtown on the north end of Broadway Avenue. With Albert Lea Public Works providing most of the labor, the project cost totals $178,000, which is less than the $250,000 budgeted. The building will include a two-stall restroom for women, a two-stall restroom for men, a mechanical room and storage area. The project includes upgrading the electrical power to the area and security cameras.
• Sibley Avenue and Marshall Street reconstruction: With storm sewer replacement wrapping up, the contractor will transition to the sanitary sewer replacement, followed by watermain installation. Both are expected to be completed next week. Afterward, the contractor will begin replacing the remaining water and sewer services.
11th Street reconstruction: Sanitary sewer replacement began this week and is expected to be completed early next week. The contractor will then begin work on the watermain replacement.
• Seventh Street and Winter Avenue reconstruction: Crews have placed sod on both streets, along with installing manhole and water valve covers to match the finished road surface. The paving subcontractor is tentatively scheduled to install the final pavement layer the week of June.
• City Arena: Contractors are building the framework for the expanded lobby, working on the interior remodeling and installing solar panels on the Colstrup Rink roof.
• Aquatic Center: The electrical updates are complete, and the water-heating systems are operating. The pool will open June 6, weather permitting.
