The Albert Lea Convention & Visitors Bureau invites residents and visitors to join in commemorating Juneteenth Freedom Day at 5:30 p.m. June 19 at the Edgewater Bay Pavilion. This special evening of remembrance, education and celebration honors the history and significance of Juneteenth — the day that symbolizes the end of slavery in the United States.

The event will feature a program in honor of educator and advocate John Smith, celebrating his lifelong contributions to education, equity and advocacy. A special tribute will be presented by Holly Babcock. An art raffle will be hosted to help raise funds for ongoing efforts towards Juneteenth events and awareness. After the event, a water balloon fight will be held at the Edgewater Bay Park, hosted by Day Peace. All are welcome to attend this fun activity.

Attendees will enjoy an engaging lineup of speakers and artists, including:

  • Day Peace: Comedian and advocate (Event MC)
  • Yvonne Willis: Artist and poet
  • Erika Saindon: Artist and advocate
  • Debb Peterson: Featured artist ($2 art raffle)
