Albert Lea Community Theatre (ACT) will close its 59th season with “Matilda – The Musical” at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center June 19 to 28.
“Matilda” tells the extraordinary story of a little girl with a vivid imagination, a sharp mind and a love of books, who dares to take a stand and change her own destiny. Born into a family that doesn’t appreciate her, Matilda finds solace in stories and strength in her intellect. With the help of her kind-hearted teacher, Miss Honey, she discovers the power of courage, kindness and a little bit of magic to overcome even the most formidable obstacles, like the tyrannical headmistress Miss Trunchbull.
Gordy Handeland is directing the play. Ella Schlaak and Margot Stanley will share the role of Matilda. Miss Trunchbull is played by Misha Stanley and Miss Honey by Michelle Supalla. Matilda’s parents, Mr. & Mrs. Wormwood, are played by Noah Iverson and Kaylynn Rose.

The adult ensemble includes Mady Schlaak, Brady Schlaak, Heather Kohler, Emma McColley, Grace Starman and Lynn Rothmeier
The teen ensemble members are Alexis Kohler Torley, Aaron Garcia, Aubrey Taylor, Anne Grimmius, Everly Wright, Abraham Gonzales and Adele Hellickson
The kids’ ensemble is Violet Gustafson and Page Andersen.
“Matilda” will be performed at the Marion Ross Performing Arts Center in downtown Albert Lea on June 19, 20, 21, 22, 25, 26, 27 and 28. The shows start at 7:30 p.m., with the June 22 matinee at 2 p.m.
