In rural northern Iowa, few things are looked forward to as much as the Worth County Fair, and this year has been no exception.
Since Wednesday, the fairgrounds have been buzzing with activity as people went from building to building — or from carnival ride to carnival ride — to see everything the fair has to offer.
Hot temperatures on Thursday did not keep people away from the 4-H and FFA rabbit show at the show arena. 4-H and FFA members, regardless of what animal they have, typically spend months preparing their animal for showtime. This includes getting it used to being handled, monitoring its health and other responsibilities. Animals are brought to the fair in hopes they will earn a handshake from the judge and maybe even a grand champion or reserve champion ribbon.
There are still plenty of activities going on at the Worth County Fair before it ends Sunday evening. Some of these include the beef, dairy, bucket/bottle calf shows, the sheep and goat shows, face painting in the commercial building, the carnival, a Sunday morning church service, the pedal pull, the much-anticipated demo derby and figure 8 races at the grandstand and more.
