The city of Albert Lea launched a new website this week that provides easier navigation, greater security and several new features. While the address — https://cityofalbertlea.org — remains the same, the site looks and functions in much different ways than the previous site.

The revamped site offers:

• Accessibility tools such as bigger text and contrast controls for browsers with visual impairments
• A directory of parks, trails and fun spots
• Translation into other languages such as Spanish
• A staff directory
• News and spotlights to highlight city services and events
• Historical timelines for Albert Lea city government, Police Department and Fire Rescue
• Online submissions for Public Works issues such as streetlight outages and potholes

The new site’s mobile version is also more user-friendly for browsers using a phone or tablet.

Browsers will need to update links and bookmarks as most pages now have different web addresses.

The city of Albert Lea selected Planeteria Media from 45 proposals to build the new website based on browser data from the previous site and input from all city departments.

Browsers may provide input on the overall site or specific pages via a button labeled “Feedback” near the accessibility menu in the lower right corner.
