Guest column by John Double
Summer has officially arrived, and with it, the Albert Lea-Freeborn County Chamber of Commerce continues to move forward through a period of meaningful transition. As we navigate staffing changes and strategic realignment, we remain committed to keeping our members and the community informed — especially with several signature events on the horizon.

We appreciate your continued patience and support. Through it all, our dedication to the businesses and people of Albert Lea and Freeborn County remains front and center.
Our focus is clear: to champion the success of local businesses by building strong connections, igniting collaboration and delivering customized support. We’re excited for what lies ahead — and we’re grateful for your partnership every step of the way.
We invite you to lean in during this time of change. Whether by supporting an event, offering your input or encouraging someone to join the chamber, your involvement strengthens the fabric of our community. When our businesses thrive, the positive impact is felt across the region.
Supporting the events that bring us together
Thank you to everyone who has contributed to our annual Fourth of July fireworks fundraising campaign. We’re very close to reaching this year’s goal, and your support helps ensure this beloved celebration continues. If you haven’t had a chance to contribute — it’s not too late to be part of this cherished tradition.
We are also still seeking participants and sponsors for the Third of July Parade. Earlier this month, we encouraged early registration to help streamline planning during this transitional period. This annual event draws thousands of spectators from across Freeborn County and beyond — it’s a fantastic opportunity to showcase your organization and celebrate what makes our community shine.
Looking ahead
Chamber members, don’t forget to save the date for one of our favorite events of the year: the annual Chamber Ambassador Golf Outing. Team spots are filling quickly, and sponsorships are still available for those who would like to be recognized while supporting our chamber scholarship fund.
We also recently mailed letters regarding the Freeborn County Fair Livestock Auction — an opportunity to support local youth who have dedicated time, care and commitment to their 4-H projects. Your contributions help recognize their efforts and reinforce the valuable life skills they’re developing.
Finally, the Chamber Board is actively evaluating the future of the Leadership Albert Lea — Freeborn County program for 2025-26. Please watch for an official announcement before the end of June. If the program proceeds this year, we’ll be operating on a compressed enrollment timeline — so now is the time to begin identifying potential participants for this outstanding leadership opportunity.
