House southeast of Hartland damaged by fire

A house southeast of Hartland was damaged Saturday evening after a fire that started in the garage.
The Freeborn County Sheriff’s Office stated the cause of the fire is still unknown, and the State Fire Marshal’s Office has been called in to assist in the investigation.
Residents were home when the fire started but were not injured. They told authorities they were alerted to the fire when they saw black smoke coming from seams in the door that leads from the garage into the house.
The Sheriff’s Office stated there was substantial damage to the attached garage, and there were potentially two vehicles that were destroyed.
Fire departments from Hartland, Manchester, Geneva, Clarks Grove and Freeborn assisted, along with Mayo Clinic Ambulance.
