Following a Lunch and Learn program at the Albert Lea Public Library a few weeks ago, Sgt. Jason Taylor asked if anyone would like to have a “Ride Along with a Policeman” experience — something available to any citizen.
I welcomed a chance for a new experience and rode with Sgt. Taylor for two hours on a recent afternoon. Our first stop was a tour of the Law Enforcement Center, an amazing place filled with cameras and special equipment.
On our drive there was a call to a disturbance at a residence just a few blocks away, so Sgt. Taylor responded. I watched from the safety of the car while police officers dealt with a loud, out-of-control man in the front yard. During 20 minutes, three policemen, two first responders from the fire department and an ambulance crew were there to deal with the problem.
I was very favorably impressed with the prompt action from our local service people.
