On July 1, 1950, Dr. Niles Shoff started his chiropractic practice in the Hyde Building, now known as the Lea Center building. There were two other chiropractors in town at the time, both located in the Hyde Building.

Dr. John Armstrong, who started in 1911, and Dr. G. Morreim, who started in 1912, both took him under their wing and helped him to establish his practice.

Niles Shoff practiced in the Hyde building until he bought the First National Bank building in 1965 on the corner of Broadway and William. Shoff Chiropractic continues to operate in this location to the present day.

In the mid-1980s, Dr. Michael Shoff joined the practice for a few years before establishing his own practice in Eden Prairie followed by a move to South Minneapolis.

Michael Shoff was also instrumental in providing relief care in the late 1990s following Niles Shoff’s leg amputation due to an injury sustained fighting in World War II.
In February 2002, Christopher Shoff joined the practice. Niles Shoff received the Minnesota Chiropractic Association Chiropractor of the Year award as well as the 50 years in practice award. He served for 12 years on the Minnesota Basic Sciences Board that licensed all primary care providers in the state, first being nominated by Gov. Orville Freeman.

Christopher Shoff served for 13 years on the Logan College of Chiropractic Alumni Board, serving as president of the organization in 2013 and 2014. He has also authored four peer-reviewed research articles on chiropractic care treatment of various conditions and has presented them at national and international research conferences.

Niles Shoff served as Albert Lea mayor from 1959-1969, was a Lions Club District governor, on the committee that started First Lutheran Church Peace and Power program, and for 12 years was president of the Hillcrest Cemetery Association.

Christopher Shoff was first elected to the Freeborn County Board of Commissioners in 2006 and continues to serve to this day.

He served as president of the Association of Minnesota Counties in 2014 and 2015, the only Freeborn County commissioner to have ever served in that capacity. He was selected to serve on the National Association of Counties Board of Directors from 2016 to 2020 as well.

At 7 p.m. Tuesday, there will be an event at Albert Lea’s Marion Ross Performing Arts Center commemorating Shoff Chiropractic’s historic milestone. Christopher Shoff said the event includes songs and stories.

There will be $10 tickets at the door with some of the proceeds going to charities to help celebrate 75 years of Shoff Chiropractic.
