Whether you’re going out on the lake, attending the parade, lighting off some fireworks or getting together with friends or family to celebrate the upcoming Fourth of July holiday, it’s going to be a busy weekend in the area.
We urge you to keep safety at the top of your mind no matter what you decide to take part in this holiday.
There will be lots of people out and about in the community, so it will be extra important for parents and grandparents to keep a close eye on their children.
Children can run quickly, and before you know it they are venturing near the street or running into a crowd. Don’t be afraid to ask for an extra hand if needed at some of the bigger events.
If you’re out on the lake, don’t forget that all children under age 10 are required to wear a life jacket while boating. Drive and act responsibly to prevent a tragedy.
If you’re planning on partaking in any alcoholic beverages, remember that similar rules about drinking and driving apply to boats as they do cars. It’s a serious offense and can carry with it serious consequences.
Keep your fireworks safe, and remember that in Minnesota it is not legal to have aerial fireworks or any fireworks that are explosive — including sky rockets, bottle rockets, Roman candles, mines or shells, chasers, parachutes and others — except with a permit and by a certified operator. There are still others you can enjoy that are much safer for the people involved.
No matter what you decide to do this holiday, don’t forget to take a moment to reflect on why we have Independence Day in the first place.
Often we take for granted how blessed we are to live in this country. Don’t forget all who have fought for us to enjoy these freedoms and who still fight to this day.
