An overheated extension cord reportedly caused a small house fire in Albert Lea Tuesday morning.
Albert Lea Fire Rescue responded to 940 Jefferson Ave. at 10:21 a.m. for the report of smoke coming from the home. Employees of the Albert Lea Public Works Department across the street noticed the smoke and called 911, according to a press release.
Fire crews responded and found a two-story home with light smoke coming out a first-floor window. The home consists of two apartments with one on the main level and one on the second level.
Fire crews made entry into the home and found fire in a bedroom on the main level. Firefighters extinguished the fire quickly. They conducted a search of the home and found no one there at the time of the fire.
No injuries were reported. Officials estimate damage to the home and contents at $10,000.
Albert Lea Police Department and Mayo Clinic Ambulance Service assisted Albert Lea Fire Rescue on the scene.
