Riverland Community College announced the appointment of Rachel Erkkila as the college’s new vice president of Strategic Enrollment and Equity.
With nearly 30 years of experience in higher education, Erkkila brings a student-centered, equity-driven perspective to her new role.
Erkkila most recently served as associate provost and dean of enrollment management and guided pathways at Des Moines Area Community College. Her career has included leadership positions in enrollment services and registrar functions at both two-year and four-year institutions. She earned her doctorate in education from Iowa State University, where her research focused on career choice decisions among women in male-dominated technical programs — a priority area for Riverland’s access and equity efforts.
“Rachel’s strategic insight, deep knowledge of enrollment systems and unwavering commitment to student success make her an exceptional addition to our leadership team,” said Riverland President Kat Linaker. “Her work will help shape Riverland’s future as we continue our mission to provide transformative education for all learners.”
In addition to her professional accomplishments, Erkkila has been active in community organizations, including the Disability Rights Iowa board and the Boone County Convention and Visitor Bureau. She is also a certified trainer in student mental health first aid and an advocate for increased access to scholarships and support services.
Erkkila and her family will relocate to the area from Ankeny, Iowa. She began her role at Riverland July 1. Her main office will be on the Austin campus but will work closely with the Albert Lea and Owatonna campuses.
