EN(dur)ANCE by Robin Gudal
As we are amid summer, many of our schedules change, and at times lighten up. Some companies even have early quit times on Friday.
We can focus more on “getting outdoors” — especially in the Midwest — and taking some relax time.
Many years ago, Greggy and I were blessed with a Sabbatical thanks to the businessmen and YFC who allowed it to happen. It was renewing and remarkable! I have a favorite picture of Greggy, my love, on the North Shore, rockhounding. We spent hours that day on the beach — it was picture perfect, just searching for rocks as we listened to the sound of the water hitting the beach. There was no agenda; no time constraint; just being present in the moment.
“Come with me by yourselves to a quiet place and get some rest.” — Mark 6:31, NIV
“Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” — Matthew 11:28, NIV
I recently told Greggy, “Let’s get the camper on the road and take a vacation.” Granted we have had times away, mostly task-oriented trips, and I am ready just to coast through life for a short timeframe.
Then I asked myself: “Am coasting a bit spiritually?”
As schedules change it is easy to fall into different habits without noticing. My devotion time has been more on-the-go, and I miss that morning coffee, devotion book and Bible time.
Do you find yourself on a spiritual vacation? It’s time to come back and get to work!
“The Lord will guide you always; he will satisfy your needs in a sun-scorched land and will strengthen your frame. You will be like a well-watered garden, like a spring whose waters never fail.” — Isaiah 58:11, NIV
“The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing. He makes me lie down in green pastures, he leads me beside quiet waters, he refreshes my soul. He guides me along the right paths for his name’s sake.” — Psalm 23:1-3, NIV
“I will extol the Lord at all times; his praise will always be on my lips.” — Psalm 34:1, NIV
I wish you all a blessed and happy Fourth of July weekend. I am thankful for freedom — physical and spiritual!
