You can help

The following are some of the volunteer opportunities currently open in Freeborn County. If you can help with any of them or would like to volunteer for others, call Pat Stumme, Retired and Senior Volunteer Program Director, at Senior Resources, 377-7433.

Elementary Schools: People are needed at Albert Lea Schools, Sept. 1 & 2, Alden / Conger School, Sept. 1, & 2 or Glenville / Emmons School Sept. 7 to ensure that families get a copy of the Out of School Activity Guide. Welcome parents and children from your seat near the door; hand a Guide to those who have come for before-school orientations. Shifts of two to three hours between noon and 8 p.m. are available.  Call Pat at 377-7433 to get on the schedule for the school in your community.

Feeding America One Child at a Time: This new program by the Salvation Army begins with one child at a time to assure they have quality, nourishing foods over the weekends when school meal programs are not available. Volunteers are needed at the Salvation Army to help fill the child-size backpacks, deliver them to Halverson School and distribute them to registered families. These tasks can be done independently on Thursdays with distributions on Fridays beginning September 9 and 10. Volunteers of any age or groups are welcome. Call Georgia at 373-5710, the Salvation Army,  because you can help.
