Storm strikes Albert Lea

A severe thunderstorm dumped more than an inch of rain on the Albert Lea area in less than a half hour at the end of the workday Tuesday.

The National Weather Service issued a flash flood warning and a severe thunderstorm warning as the storm struck the city.

Power is out in some areas, such as homes west of Hammer Field. Alliant Energy says 300 homes are without power.

Flooding is visible throughout Albert Lea, but perhaps the worst is on Main Street near the former Snyder Drug building.

The storm hit Albert Lea shortly after 5 p.m. with the kind of rain that drenches anyone running through it. And though it still was raining at 5:30 pm., the severity had let up. The storm hurtled eastward toward Austin.
