NEW RICHLAND — Carlie Wagner scored 23 points Tuesday as the No. 1-seeded New Richland-Hartland-Ellendale-Geneva Panthers girls’ basketball team defeated No. 8 Triton Cobras 61-30 in the first round of the Section 2AA tournament in New Richland.

Jade Schultz scored 13 points and Anna Schlaak tallied 11 points on the night.

Kristina Cole led the Panthers with 10 rebound as NRHEG out-rebounded Triton 52-26.

“We did a nice job of contesting shots,” Panthers coach John Schultz said. “Triton likes the 3-point shot and it was seven minutes into the game before they scored.”

With the win, the Panthers will host the No.4-seeded United South Central Rebels at 7 p.m. on Friday in New Richland.
