Ascension Lutheran Church Women

The Ascension Lutheran Church Women of ELCA held its monthly meeting at 9:30 a.m. Feb. 12.

Co-President Caroline Sorenson called the meeting to order and led devotions centered around First Corinthians 12:12 and 12:27. Caroline Sorensen welcomed everyone.

Secretary’s report was given by Lorraine Schaper and was approved as printed in the February newsletter.

The treasurer’s report was given by Cheryl Venem and approved and placed on file.

April 14 at 9:30 a.m. The Blue Earth River Conference will be held at Ascension Lutheran Church. Plans have been made with co-host, Concordia Pickeral Lake Lutheran Church. Jan Jerdee explained the theme along with Conference Centerpieces.

Report from Alice Jensen on the Pioneer Members Program for 2012 which will be held some time in May. The committee consists of Alice Jensen and Iris Tarvestad.

Caroline Sorenson read the letter received from Earl Thompson requesting consideration on help for Nepal.

Mission in Community Chairwoman Mary Boorsma reported on assisting a family in preparing breakfast and rides for Sunday school and church.

Good Earth correspondence received with the application needed to know if a quilt will be given for Good Earth Quilt Auction.

Rosalyn Fossum spoke for Kitchen Committee concerning checking into new coffee servers for the kitchen. Committee will check on size and cost for future consideration.

Announced the invitation received from the Albert Lea Vineyard Church Ladies Conference which will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. March 3 at 419 Adams Ave., Albert Lea.

Mission in Growth: Joan Anderson reminded members about the recycling project available asking for old tennis shoes.

Discussion was held on the Confirmation reception, which is funded by WELCA and served by a work group.

Each year funds from the group’s Time and Talent Bazaar are given to outreach programs and used at the church. Each monthly meeting will give information on each outreach program to learn more about each one’s special work.

The next monthly meeting will be at 9:30 a.m. March 11.
