The weather was prime for last weekend’s Albert Lea High School golf tournaments and because of the success, they will happen again next year.

The girls’ golf team hosted the first ever Tiger Cup at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club.

Albert Lea placed first, Owatonna second, Austin third and Faribault fourth.

The four golfers whose scores counted were Morgan Field, Paige Brick, Megan Pulley and Chelsey Battle.

Also over the weekend, the boys’ golf team hosted a two-day invitational that started Friday at Green Lea Golf Club and finished at Wedgewood Cove Golf Club on Saturday. There were 21 teams competing. Albert Lea had two teams, Albert Lea Cherry and Albert Lea Blue.

Albert Lea Cherry placed 10th and Albert Lea Blue placed 20th.

John Double, activities director for Albert Lea High School, said without the dedication of coach Shawn Reibe and coach Riley Worth the events wouldn’t have been possible.

“With that said, it also wouldn’t happen without the outstanding generosity and commitment from both local golf courses and parent volunteers,” Double said.

He said both Green Lea and Wedgewood have worked well with the high school not only for the tournaments, but all season long.

“They are great supporters of our programs and everything they do is so appreciated, it cannot be put into words,” Double said.
