Floods cause evacuations in Cannon FallsPublished 11:16am Friday, June 15, 2012
CANNON FALLS — Cannon Falls is closing roads and has asked about two dozen residents to evacuate due to flooding.
The city’s emergency management director, Jeff McCormick, said one house along the Little Cannon River and one business near where it converges with the Cannon River have been flooded so far.
He said they started asking people to evacuate early Friday because their houses were near rivers and roads that were flooded and were becoming isolated. The gas was shut off to the residences.
National Weather Service meteorologist Mike Griesinger said 8.4 inches of rain fell Thursday. Police said the Cannon River rose 28 inches in a few hours early Friday and the Little Cannon River rose 39 inches but both have started receding.
