First Lutheran Church Women

First Lutheran Church Women met at 1:15 p.m. Sept. 12 in Bethany Hall.

Prelude music was provided by Joan Holt.

Vonnie Oftedahl welcomed everyone and led us in the reciting of the purpose statement.

Hazel Senske gave the devotions reminding the group that God is with everyone all the time even though sometimes it’s hard to realize his presence.

Marge Moine introduced the program which was Millard Hamborg and Ken Bertelson who presented a most enjoyable program with their musical selections.

Marlene Behle introduced the program, which was “Memories of Old Time Kitchens” presented by Phyllis Meyer and Gloria Peterson. They brought several items to display and did a great presentation bringing back memories of years gone by.

The secretary’s report was reviewed and upon motion by Vonnie Oftdahl and seconded by Virginia Hermanson was placed on file.

President Elaine Peterson informed the group that Chandler Andersen was ready to do the mural. The Parlor Committee has seen his slides, and they are very excited about his mural.

Also the Reformation luncheon will be at noon Oct. 10 and the tickets will again be $5. The tickets should be purchased by Oct. 8 for planning purposes.

The group was also reminded that Friends at First meets on Tuesday in Bethany Hall at 11:30 a.m. The Rev. Joel Erickson will speak on “Spiritual Journey.”

Holidays Ahead will be held on Nov. 1 with the annual craft and baked goods bazaar beginning at 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. The group was reminded to save items for the Used a Bit Plus as this brought in a good source of income in previous years. They were also reminded of the Lutheran World Relief van that will be at the church on Oct. 13. Items are needed by Oct. 10.

Corresponding secretary, Lois Jensen, reported that the group had received a thank you note from the Salvation Army for a check for $40 and a thank you from KATE Radio for a check for $50.

The offering prayer was given by Phyllis Hamborg remembering 9/11, which was still in everyone’s hearts.

Elaine Peterson thanked the ushers Jinni Olson and Julia Tender, greeters Cathy Carter, Nancy Jensen, Ione Kelly and Neva Mathison, wheelchair attendants Virginia Hermanson and Jan Overgaard, hostesses chairperson Marcia Habben and her committee: Barb Andersen, Bernadine Gregerson, Eunice Hatleli, Judy Kropp, Helen Lovik and Marilyn Moe, and Caring and Sharing co-chairwomen Arlis Smith and Helen Lovik and their committee served one funeral in August.

Announcements:

Wednesday evenings will be Financial Peace University from 7 to 9 p.m. in the Multi-Purpose Room. This is a nine-week series.

Oct. 5: Church Women United board meeting at 9 a.m. in the parlor

Oct. 13: Lutheran World Relief van from 7:30 a.m. to noon

Oct. 14: Confirmation celebration at 10:30 a.m.

Nov. 2: World Community Day, First Presbyterian Church

As there was no further business to come before the meeting, the group prayed the Lord’s Prayer and sang the table prayer before having lunch.
