MINNEAPOLIS — Thousands of pages from the Boy Scouts’ so-called “perversion files” have been made public, and the files identify 23 Minnesota men from 13 communities.

The files stretch from 1960 to 1984. They detail allegations in Minneapolis, St. Paul, Bloomington, Eagan, Mounds View, St. Louis Park, Apple Valley, Maplewood, International Falls, Chisholm, Faribault, Rochester and Moorhead.

The Oregon Supreme Court ordered about 14,500 pages of Boy Scout documents released Thursday. They show police chiefs, prosecutors, pastors and even Boy Scout leaders shielded scoutmasters and others who allegedly molested children.

John Andrews is the executive director of Northern Star Council, which represents 80 percent of Minnesota scouts. He acknowledged “the whole community” sometimes put image ahead of child protection. He says the organization is always sorry when a child is harmed.
